EAT FOR YOUR BLOOD TYPE

From a Naturopathic Perspective

In naturopathic and integrative wellness circles, “eating for your blood type” is based on the idea that your blood type (O, A, B, AB) influences:

  • How your body digests certain foods
  • How efficiently you metabolize proteins, fats, and carbohydrates
  • How your immune system responds to different food groups
  • What types of foods may support or stress your system (i.e. protein lectins produce an inflammatory response in the body)

At Nutritional Needs, we use this approach because we believe that each blood type has ancestral patterns — like hunter‑gatherer, agrarian, or nomadic — that shape how your body interacts with food. Our goal is to help you choose foods that feel easier on the body, reduce digestive stress, and support overall wellness.

At Nutritional Needs

“Eating for your blood type” is a gentle, educational approach that helps you understand how your body may respond to different foods based on your blood type.  Each blood type is thought to have unique digestive tendencies and ancestral patterns that can influence how certain foods feel in your body. From a general nutrition standpoint, it’s a self‑awareness tool that encourages whole foods and helps you notice which foods support your energy, digestion, and overall wellness.

During your session, Dr. Michele uses your blood type as a starting point for conversation — offering practical, supportive guidance to help you make food choices that feel nourishing and aligned with your body’s needs.

  • She helps clients learn their blood type
  • She explains what foods will be more supportive for their type
  • She explains and shows you how and why organic, non-GMO foods are best
  • She uses it as a lifestyle tool to talk with you about digestion, energy, weight loss, and reducing inflammation
  • She offers gentle, practical guidance, not rigid rules

It becomes a way for clients to understand their bodies better and make choices that help them feel their best.

Blood Type O

  • Often associated with “hunter‑gatherer” ancestry
  • May feel supported by balanced proteins and vegetables
  • Common wellness focus: steady energy, digestion support, balanced meals

Blood Type A

  • Often linked to more “agrarian” or plant‑forward patterns because people with Type A often have lower stomach acid, making it more difficult to digest animal proteins
  • May feel supported by lighter, plant‑rich meals
  • Common wellness focus: calming foods, gentle digestion, grounding routines

Blood Type B

  • Sometimes described as “nomadic” in naturopathic frameworks
  • May do well with a varied, flexible diet
  • Common wellness focus: variety, immune support, balanced routines

Blood Type AB

  • Considered a blend of A and B tendencies
  • May feel best with moderation and mixed food patterns
  • Common wellness focus: balance, mindful eating, stress reduction
